Redskins officially expand Brandon Scherff’s job description

RICHMOND — Top rookie Brandon Scherff has a new position description on the Redskins’ updated roster released Saturday morning.

The Iowa product — taken with the fifth overall pick — now is listed as a guard/tackle. Scherff had been listed only as a tackle.

Scherff spent the past three days practicing at right guard after playing the previous five training camp practices, and all of the offseason practices, at right tackle.

At Iowa, Scherff played guard as a redshirt freshman, then spent three seasons at left tackle. However, although Scherff was regarded as the top offensive lineman in this year’s draft class, some analysts believed that the 6-foot-5, 319-pounder would project better as a guard than tackle.
