Kyle Smith acknowledged the obvious: If the Washington Redskins had traded Trent Williams earlier, the compensation could have been better than the two draft picks they received Saturday from the San Francisco 49ers.
On Saturday, when the year-long drama finally came to an end, the Redskins settled for a 2020 fifth-round and a 2021 third-round pick — far from the first-rounder they could have likely received if Williams was dealt last summer.
But at this point, the Redskins are glad to have the saga over with.
