Redskins’ common concepts: Use of the out route

Yesterday, we examined how Jay Gruden likes to attack teams deep with the four verticals concept. But Gruden’s offense founded upon the classic West Coast offense built by the legendary Bill Walsh. The typical West Coast offense is based on short, quick passes as an extension of the running game to pick up small chunks of yards at a time. Gruden has plenty of plays in that fashion, many involve the use of the out route.

The out route itself isn’t a concept. It’s only when it’s combined with other routes does it become a concept.
