The Redskins trimmed their roster from 90 men to 53 by Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline — and running backs Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine both survived the cutdown.
Washington decided to keep five backs on the roster: Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Byron Marshall, Kelley and Perine. But Marshall (sprained ACL and MCL) will go on injured reserve — freeing up another roster spot before Week 1, coach Jay Gruden said Saturday.
The Redskins elected to not have a backup for Thompson, the team’s third-down back and one of their most valuable playmakers. In doing so, Washington cut Kapri Bibbs.
