Every year, there are talented free agents left on the open market after the NFL draft. And in 2019, that’s no different. After the first two waves of free agency, the players left on the market can tend to linger. They tend to want larger contracts than what teams are willing to pay. And after a certain point, it doesn’t make sense for teams to add them, as it can offset their potential compensatory picks.
However, there is a bright spot. Every year, there is what amounts to a compensatory pick deadline. Players signed after that point no longer count towards the compensatory pick formula.
