In 2015 the Washington Redskins tight end position was expected to be a huge asset on offense. The Redskins were deep at the position. Both Niles Paul and Jordan Reed were to combine to be one of the top pass catching tight end duos in the league. And Logan Paulsen would be the blocking tight end.
Paul had been named the starter by head coach Jay Gruden and Jordan Reed was to be the number two. However, Paul sustained a season ending ankle injury in preseason and Reed was elevated to starter. Paulsen was also lost for the season and suddenly after being a strength, tight end depth became a liability.
