When the Washington Redskins drafted Alfred Morris in the sixth round of the 2012 draft it didn’t make many waves at the time. However, he quickly began to distinguish himself in training camp and preseason as being a near perfect fit for Mike Shanahan’s zone blocking running scheme.
Morris wound up as the surprise starter at tailback on opening day and immediately showed why as he started all sixteen games and rushed for 1,613 yards and 13 TD’s in his rookie season. Morris’ performance was a vital cog in the Redskins push to winning the NFC East that season.
