RICHMOND, Va. -- This is where Washington Redskins linebacker Preston Smith is at these days: It’s not just enough for him to get in position to make a play. He must finish it off. That’s the message delivered by the coaches, one with which Smith agrees.
After recording eight sacks as a rookie, more is expected -- and needed -- from Smith this season. With Junior Galette sidelined for the season thanks to another Achilles injury, the Redskins’ defense, and their pass rush, needs to improve from within.
In Thursday’s preseason opener, Smith had a strong showing and contributed in multiple ways.
