The Washington Redskins continued to make cuts to their roster Saturday afternoon, and in so doing, parted with one of their more productive preseason contributors.
Backup outside linebacker Houston Bates, who had recorded three sacks and a pass breakup, was informed that he will be waived, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Bates, an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Tech, could wind up re-signing to Washington’s practice squad if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
Team officials told Bates, who had battled with second-year pro Jackson Jeffcoat for the final spot in the outside linebacker unit, that they would like to add him to the practice squad.
