Rather than the previous deadline, July 15, teams will now have until July 17 to sign players under the franchise tag. Although it isn’t a massive change, the shifting of the deadline is evident in a league where deadlines do deals. Here’s the reasoning for the adjustment, courtesy of NFL.com’s Kevin Patra.
The NFL confirmed the deadline was pushed back from Saturday, July 15, until Monday, July 17.
Per the collective bargaining agreement, if the normal July 15 deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is moved to the ensuing Monday.
