It has been just shy of a year since Brian de la Puente last played in an NFL game. But the 6-foot-3, 306-pound veteran center may start for the Redskins Sunday against the New Orleans Saints at FedEx Field.
Coach Jay Gruden made no commitment Wednesday, following the team’s first practice in preparation for the Saints (4-5), but said it’s conceivable that the 30-year-old will supplant Josh LeRibeus at center just five days after joining the team.
The Redskins signed de la Puente Tuesday, after placing center Kory Lichtensteiger on short-term injured reserve.
