ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins only know this: Matt Jones' fumbles need to stop. Jones knows that, too. Until Jones figures out a way to reduce those mishaps, the solution could be to limit his opportunities.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden made it clear Monday that they’re not giving up on Jones. But he made it equally clear the fumbles are an issue that must go away.
Jones fumbled once inside the 5-yard line that was recovered in the end zone by Detroit in the Lions’ 20-17 win. Jones also mishandled a handoff that he fumbled and then recovered (because he never had full possession, the official fumble belongs to quarterback Kirk Cousins).
