Kirk Cousins' success starts with him, but many factors have helped

ASHBURN, Va. -- The primary reason for Kirk Cousins' improvement as the Washington Redskins starting quarterback comes from himself. Since he joined the Redskins in 2012, Cousins drew praise from coaches and teammates for how he worked, on his own, in the film room and on the practice field.

If he didn’t work that way, he wouldn’t be in the position he is now as a former fourth-round pick. It’s led to a season in which he’s thrown 26 touchdown passes and only 11 interceptions heading into the season finale.

In the past nine games, Cousins has thrown 20 touchdowns to only three interceptions -- and he owns the NFL’s second-best passer rating and fifth-best total QBR during this stretch.
