Kirk Cousins says he’s focusing solely on Carolina, not a future contract

Asked multiple times about a potential contract extension with the Washington Redskins, quarterback Kirk Cousins on Wednesday found multiple ways to say that it’s not among his concerns as he prepares for the seven games remaining in the season.

“I really don’t deal with it,” Cousins said Wednesday at Redskins Park, where preparations got under way in earnest for Sunday’s game at the 9-0 Carolina Panthers. “Just try to focus on playing the game. I’ve got enough to worry about with Carolina and every team after that. That consumes my focus.”

Cousins, 27, is in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract and will become an unrestricted free agent on March 15, which means he’ll be free to shop his services on the open market.
