Calling himself a “redskin,” new Washington cornerback Josh Norman told ESPN Magazine he had no problem with the NFL franchise’s nickname.
“I’m part Native American on both my mom’s and my dad’s side. It’s kind of a funny thing, though. A redskin playing for the Redskins,” Mr. Norman, who is black, told ESPN in an interview.
In May, The Washington Post published a poll that showed some 90 percent of Native Americans said they don’t have a problem with the team name.
While Mr. Norman and Roger Goodell may find common ground on the propriety of the Redskins’ team name, the outspoken former Carolina Panther also tells ESPN the controversial commissioner is “straight horrible” and that he loves the culture in the Redskins front office when it comes to letting players express themselves.
