The Redskins will stick with Josh LeRibeus as their starting center for Sunday’s game against New Orleans, despite the early-week acquisition of sixth-year veteran Brian de la Puente.
Coach Jay Gruden said de la Puente, 30, who has 50 NFL starts, would continue getting acclimated to the Redskins’ playbook and could be active for the team’s return to FedEx Field, where they’ll host the 4-5 Saints.
“We’ll get Brian up to speed,” Gruden said. “The big thing is getting him used to the calls and getting him back to playing shape. Doesn’t happen over two practices.”
The Redskins signed de la Puente, who hasn’t played in nearly a year, after placing starting center Kory Lichtensteiger on short-term injured reserve following a disc injury that had weakened his left side.
