Jim Tomsula pumping up Anthony Lanier to step in for Jonathan Allen

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins liked defensive end Anthony Lanier’s talent, which is why he stuck around last season. He was considered raw, but worth keeping because of his athleticism -- and length. Then he bulked up in the offseason, getting stronger. Now, with Jonathan Allen out, they need him to contribute along the defensive line.

That’s one reason line coach Jim Tomsula rode him hard during practice Friday – and why he praised him with gusto whenever he did something right. But this is why Tomsula is good; he did not stick to a scripted schedule for individual work.
