Regardless of whether Chris Culliver’s collision with Greg Olsen constituted an illegal hit, as the NFL ruled in negating the cornerback’s ensuing touchdown, Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said Monday that team’s poor play — and not officiating — was the reason for the 44-16 defeat at Carolina.
Moreover, Gruden acknowledged that he didn’t want the Redskins to get a reputation for blaming others for its own shortcomings.
“I don’t want us to be perceived as a team that’s looking for excuses to why we lost,” Gruden said Monday, after the Redskins’ woeful performance against the unbeaten Carolina Panthers dropped the squad to 4-6.
