Jay Gruden on Kirk Cousins: ‘Obviously … a guy we’d like to keep around’

In the wake of the Redskins’ 47-14 rout of New Orleans, there was no shortage of opinion on social media and Washington’s talk radio stations about whether, when and at what cost the team should re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins, who becomes a free agent at season’s end.

Coach Jay Gruden, who bucked prevailing opinion in naming Cousins his starter for the 2015 season on Aug. 31, was asked to weigh in on Monday.

“Obviously Kirk is a guy we’d like to keep around, no doubt. But it’ll be up to Scot, and Kirk’s agent and Kirk,” Gruden said, making clear that all Redskins decisions involving money and contracts are handled by team President Bruce Allen and General Manager Scot McCloughan.
