Rookie Jamison Crowder’s strained hamstring prevented Redskins Coach Jay Gruden from staging the full-blown competition for return specialist that he had hoped to during training camp and the preseason. So with three days to go before Sunday’s regular-season opener against Miami, the assignments are still in flux.
“We’re working on it,” Gruden told reporters. “We’ve got another couple days here to make sure who’s who and who’s where. We’ve got some good options, which is a good thing.”
Gruden added that he hoped to reach a decision following Thursday practice at Redskins Park.
Settling on a punt returner who can improve on last season’s subpar results is Gruden’s main priority.
