How perception on a player can change, even as no games are played

When Washington drafted Preston Smith back in May, one faction of fans who comment on the Insider’s threads thought it was an indication that Trent Murphy was a wasted pick, or a backup at best. Smith, a 2015 second-round pick was immediately looked as a pass-rushing complement to Ryan Kerrigan; his fellow outside linebacker, Murphy, a 2014 second-round pick, was talked about as just a complementary player.

Said the commenter skinswest on May 2:

He sounds like he will be the olb opposite Kerrigan initially but is diverse enough to be moved all around – bring in Murphy and move him to end, move him next to Kerrigan, etc.
