When Jason Wright was hired during the midst of the 2020 turmoil around Washington’s football team, it was pretty clear why he was brought in: 1) Do immediate damage control for the Snyders by undertaking a series of moves to try to make ownership seem more sympathetic, in an environment where they were largely loathed, and (likely) 2) Give the league (read: Roger Goodell) a mole inside the organization to gather intel on the Snyders, should the situation ultimately prove unsalvageable (which it did).
Despite Wright’s best efforts, which were comically inept at times, the Snyders lost their bid to hang onto the franchise, and were unceremoniously run out of town.
