Jason Hatcher discussed the possibility of retiring after the season ended, but he didn’t make it official until Friday. He has retired from the NFL after 10 seasons. Hatcher’s agent, Jordan Woy, tweeted the news earlier in the day.
The Redskins released Hatcher on March 7, saving $8.7 million on their salary cap. He visited with New Orleans at one point in the free-agency process and Washington remained interested in re-signing him. The Redskins, though, were not going to do so until after the draft.
Hatcher’s leadership was often praised this past season. At a card show in Chantilly, Virginia, on Saturday, Redskins defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois said he looked up to Hatcher.
