ASHBURN, Va. -- His brother's arm is the reason he makes a living. That’s not the case for Washington Redskins punter Tress Way, who earns a paycheck because of his right leg. And yet his arm helped turn around a game.
Whether it does the same for the season remains to be seen. For the time being, his fourth-down pass off a fake punt helped the Redskins avoid an 0-3 start. The Redskins needed the right time to try the fake, having noticed on film what the Giants do in certain situations.
For example, when teams are close to midfield and will end up using a pooch punt -- trying to get the ball inside the 20-yard line instead of booming one -- the cornerback to that side, Trevin Wade, would let the gunner on that side -- in this case, Quinton Dunbar, a former receiver -- go.
