Broken plays require an element of improvisation, but for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders, those moments are rehearsed.

Football can seem to be about the pursuit of perfection, about executing to a level of precision that means 11 people act as one. That’s all well and good, until everything breaks down. Which it does, inevitably.

So if such chaos is unavoidable, why not rehearse what to do when it arrives? Daniels has many talents. Somewhere near the top of the list is the ability to escape. Thus, the Commanders’ thinking: If our quarterback has an inherent sense for slipping away from the pass rush, there should be a plan for what everyone else does next.
