The Dallas Cowboys signed rookie running back Trey Williams off the Washington Redskins’ practice squad on Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.
The Cowboys needed a third running back after releasing former starter Joseph Randle on Tuesday. Williams will join Darren McFadden and former Texas A&M teammate Christine Michael in the Cowboys’ backfield. The Spring, Tex., native signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent in May. He declared early for the NFL draft following three seasons with the Aggies, rushing for 1,343 career yards on 204 attempts. During the Redskins preseason, Williams had 127 rushing yards on 31 carries with a touchdown.
