RICHMOND – The Indianapolis Colts were awarded injured cornerback Tevin Mitchel after putting in a waiver claim for the Redskins’ sixth-round draft pick.
Mitchel tore the labrum in his right shoulder on Saturday, and the team – because doctors said he needed surgery and would miss the entire year – waived him Wednesday. The Colts claimed Mitchel the following day.

In most cases, a player waived in training camp goes unclaimed and reverts to their team’s injured reserve list.
However, the Colts deemed Mitchel a promising enough prospect to claim him.
