RICHMOND — Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson never watches or listens to Coach Jay Gruden’s press conferences. But every now and then, when the team’s second-year coach sneaks in a reference to the third-year tailback, Thompson hears the rumblings.
Gruden recently spoke of Thompson with a little bit of praise, surmising what his role could be on this year’s squad.
“I think Chris Thompson is really starting to emerge as a third-down back,” Gruden said Wednesday.
Later on that day, a reporter delivered Thompson the news, though he simply shrugged it off with a smile.
