Chris Culliver fined for unsportsmanlike conduct, not unnecessary roughness

Flagged for unnecessary roughness after officials said he was guilty of a helmet-to-helmet hit in last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, Redskins cornerback Chris Culliver instead was fined this week for unsportsmanlike conduct, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The fine was for the amount of $11,567.

The ruling only adds more confusion to what was already a controversial situation because of the 14-point swing that followed in last Sunday’s 44-16 Panthers win over Washington.

With 10 minutes 20 seconds left in the second quarter, Culliver hit tight end Greg Olsen just after Olsen pulled in a pass from Cam Newton.
