Last time the Washington Redskins used the franchise tag on somebody, it didn’t go so well. That individual was Kirk Cousins. And over the course of several offseasons, the team and Cousins danced around potential long-term deals but could never make enough headway.
It first started with the Redskins trying to buy low on Cousins. Then, they tried to reason with one another but couldn’t close the financial gap. And after Cousins was tagged for a second time, he didn’t even seem to entertain extension offers from the team and instead opted to sign a fully guaranteed contract with the Minnesota Vikings in the 2018 offseason.
