RICHMOND, Va. -- The Washington Redskins history in the 1980s might have looked differently if Bobby Beathard had not taken a chance on two people: Coach Joe Gibbs and cornerback Darrell Green.
Both of them helped the Redskins win three Super Bowls, two of which occurred with Beathard as the Redskins’ general manager. That’s a big reason the Redskins – finally – have inducted Beathard into their Ring of Fame. It’s surprising that Beathard does not merit strong consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, considering he also was San Diego’s general manager when it reached the Super Bowl for the first time.
