Bears use disciplined defense, improved Jay Cutler to stay in games

ASHBURN, Va. -- Three things I learned about the Chicago Bears after watching film, talking to players and coaches and doing a little research:

They play disciplined defense. Chicago has issues defensively, but a lot of them stem from talent and changing to a new scheme. The Bears had played a 4-3 before defensive coordinator Vic Fangio arrived and installed a 3-4. So there are some mismatched parts. The Bears have allowed just 42 plays of 20 or more yards this year; only three teams have allowed fewer. In the pass game, they’ve allowed 38 such plays (eight have given up fewer).
