RICHMOND, Va. -- The other day Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland said he’s on the verge of something special, perhaps elevating himself to being a top-five corner. But there’s something else he’d like to try too: Being a kick returner.
Breeland has been fielding kickoffs in practice and did so again Wednesday afternoon during a special-teams practice. The likelihood of him actually doing it is slim; the Redskins have experienced options in Rashad Ross and Chris Thompson. Veteran Will Blackmon and Dashaun Phillips also have fielded kicks.
But Breeland is the newcomer of the group mainly because he kept telling coach Jay Gruden he wanted a shot.
