Andre Roberts credits big block by Darrel Young for 99-yard kickoff return

CHARLOTTE — Before the negated touchdown derailed the Redskins’ focus and a slew of turnovers spelled their doom in Sunday’s 44-16 defeat at Carolina, Andre Roberts kept Washington in contention with a 99-yard kickoff return that knotted the score at 14 with 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

It was Roberts’s first NFL kickoff returned for a touchdown, and it flashed a breakaway speed that hasn’t been on display much since Roberts was supplanted as the Redskins’ slot receiver earlier this season by rookie Jamison Crowder.

“I’ve always kind of tried to do that, have an opportunity to catch it and go and get as many yards as you can early,” Roberts said afterward.
