Redskins running back Adrian Peterson was named Thursday as one of the finalists for the NFL’s Art Rooney Sportsmanship award.
Peterson joined seven other players — four from each conference — as candidates for the award. The winner, announced Feb. 1, will receive $25,000 to donate to a charity of his choice and a trophy that “that represents the important role that sportsmanship plays in the game and how NFL players that demonstrate integrity and honor on the field serve as role models for players at all levels,” according to the league.
Last year’s award went to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
