Closer looks at Redskins draft picks:
Scherff | Smith | Today: Jones | Tomorrow: Crowder
The Redskins had a hole to fill at running back. Roy Helu Jr. had been the third down back and had spelled starter Alfred Morris spot snaps here and there. But Washington let Helu walk in free agency and didn’t sign anyone to replace him. In the third round, after trading down, the Redskins selected Matt Jones from Florida to fill the void.
Jones is a big, powerful back who initiates contact and breaks tackles.
