The Washington Redskins already have Jordan Reed at tight end, but they've added some well-known depth. The team signed Vernon Davis Thursday.

The ties between Davis and the Redskins go beyond Davis growing up in the area. Current Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan drafted Davis in 2006 when McCloughan was with the San Francisco 49ers.
It's a one-year deal for Davis, who has struggled in recent years. He was traded to the Denver Broncos mid-way through last season, but caught just 20 passes in nine games. After catching 13 touchdown passes in 2013, Davis has two combined in the last two years. He didn't have any last season.
While Davis is not the player he once was, he provides depth in the event Reed continues to battle injuries. Davis is 32-years old, but said he wants to play for another four or five years. He'll need to prove himself if he wants teams to remain interested in him after this year.
