The Washington Redskins are facing a crucial offseason with quarterback Kirk Cousins.
After franchise tagging Cousins this past season, Washington is contemplating signing him to a multi-year extension which would likely be worth over $20 million a season. They could also franchise tag him again, which would net Cousins roughly $25 million - but he wants a long-term deal.
Many feel it's only a matter of time before Cousins and the Redskins come to terms, but apparently Washington is exploring their options. According to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, the Redskins have considering trading Cousins.
A Washington source indicated that are willing to weigh their options this offseason with quarterback Kirk Cousins, including the possibility of trading him with either San Francisco or Cleveland being the most likely destinations.
While this doesn't mean a trade is imminent, Washington is at least open to the possibility. This may also be a tactic to try and gain more leverage in negotiations with Cousins.
Both the 49ers and Browns are in desperate need of a quarterback, and both are projected to select a quarterback in the first round in the NFL Draft. However, landing an established player like Cousins could help speed up the rebuilding process for both franchises.
Cousins threw for 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this past season.
