The Washington Redskins have officially turned their attention to the offseason with free agency and the NFL Draft as the main priorities, especially with the Senior Bowl having just finished and the combine on the horizon. With that in mind, we've compiled the most interesting tidbits around the Redskins as the draft approaches:
Washington looking for interior defensive line help?
The Redskins run the risk of having a major hole to fill up front if defensive tackle Terrance Knighton leaves in free agency, and they're expected to address that need in the draft. ESPN's Todd McShay has them drafting Alabama's Jarran Reed with the No. 21 overall pick, even if Knighton returns:
Reed is one of the best run-stuffing defensive linemen in this draft, which is saying something considering the talent pool up front. And while his sack numbers are underwhelming (2.0 total in two seasons), he still provides adequate inside push as a bull rusher. Even if free agent Terrance Knighton returns, it's time for Washington to add youth to its defensive front.
Reed recorded 57 tackles and one sack for Alabama this past season.
Redskins to target a big wide receiver?
There are rumblings that Washington will cut either Pierre Garcon or DeSean Jackson this offseason, hoping to get bigger on the outside. Their plan is to bring in an established veteran in free agency, but if they aren't able to sign one of their targets, they'll turn to the draft to do so. TCU wideout Josh Doctson certainly fits the bill at the end of the first round, or they could opt to go with Pitt's Tyler Boyd or Notre Dame's Will Fuller in the middle rounds.
