The Washington Redskins hold the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but there are rumors swirling that general manager Scot McCloughan will look to trade out of the first round in exchange for multiple picks.
In his first year at helm, McCloughan made it clear that he drafts for value, but will this strategy continue? And could the Redskins draft a mid-to-late-round quarterback to develop behind Kirk Cousins?
Trading Down a Real Possibility
With several teams looking at Paxton Lynch after Jared Goff and Carson Wentz are taken with the first two picks, there's a good chance the Redskins find a willing trade partner to hand over a second- and third-round selection in exchange for No. 21. Teams like the Devner Broncos, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers -- who hold 12 total picks this year -- are very thin at quarterback, making a pact with McCloughan an enticing option.
Will Redskins Draft A Quarterback?
While Washington won't go after a quarterback like Lynch in the early rounds, grabbing a signal-caller on Day 2 or 3 to develop behind Kirk Cousins is a low-risk move the team could pursue. While a few quarterbacks have been tied to the Redskins, including Dak Prescott and Cardale Jones, Christian Hackenberg -- who recently visited Redskins Park -- would make a nice under-the-radar pick. The Penn State QB has good mobility in and out of the pocket to with a cannon of an arm, but needs a good coaching staff to refine his skill set.
