The Washington Redskins have won the NFC East for the second time in four years thanks to a convincing 38-24 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia came out and took a quick 7-0 lead on their opening drive, but Washington took over from there. Tight end Jordan Reed (nine catches, 129 yards) caught both of his touchdown passes in the first quarter as the Redskins built a comfortable lead as Washington went into the halftime break with the 16-10 advantage.
Both sides scored touchdowns on their second drives of the second half, but the Redskins were able to break the game open when cornerback DeAngelo Hall recovered Eagles running back DeMarco Murray's fumble and returned it 17 yards for the score. Washington then put up another touchdown on their ensuing drive, building a dominant 38-17 advantage. Wide receiver Jordan Matthews scored a late touchdown to the Eagles to make the final score 38-24.
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins had the best game of his career, completing 31/46 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers, marking the first road game of the season in which he didn't throw an interception.
The Redskins have now clinched the No. 4 seed in the NFC playoffs, and will likely host the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the playoffs. They will face the Dallas Cowboys in their regular season finale next Sunday.
Philadelphia now drops to 6-9 on the year and has been eliminated from playoff contention. They will face the Giants in New York next weekend to wrap up their season.
