The Buffalo Bills won't be heading to the playoffs this season, as a 35-25 loss to the Washington Redskins dropped them to 6-8 and ended their chances. The win puts the Redskins in control of the NFC East with a 7-7 record.
Notes:
Kirk Cousins continued his great play with another strong effort this week. He completed 22 of 28 passes for 319 yards, 4 TDs and no picks. His QBR was 99 and he has rewarded Jay Gruden's faith.
The Redskins had a strong running effort against the Bills. Alfred Morris led the way with 84 yards on 14 carries. The team as a whole had 27 carries for 123 yards and a score. The Redskins' running game has been awful at times this season, but it's improved in recent weeks.
The Bills outgained the Redskins, had fewer turnovers and had the advantage in time of possession. However, penalties and third downs killed Buffalo. The Bills committed eight penalties for 56 yards and were just 5 of 13 on third downs. The Redskins were 7 for 11 and that was a major difference in the game.
LeSean McCoy left the game with a knee injury and finished with just 10 carries for 29 yards. But Buffalo still had a strong day on the ground, racking up 240 yards and a score on 31 carries. Mike Gillislee had 81 yards and a score on just four carries and QB Tyrod Taylor ran for 79 yards.

Observations:
I wasn't a believer in Cousins. However, he's really proved me wrong in recent weeks. He's been wonderful and finally cut down on the turnovers that plagued him. His technique is better as well and he's going to get a nice raise this offseason. Cousins is a free agent and someone (likely the Redskins) will give him a nice contract.
Sammy Watkins is on fire. He was targeted 10 times and caught five passes for 111 yards and two scores. The offense is better when Watkins is getting work and the Bills have wisely made sure to get him the ball.
