The Washington Redskins are diving headfirst into the offseason, and the team's first priority is re-signing its own players. They have several key contributors they need to bring back next season - but also those they need they need to get rid of to create cap space. Here are three notable players the Redskins may cut this offseason:
DB DeAngelo Hall
Hall has said he is willing to re-work his deal, which Washington may choose to do, but the Redskins can also save $4 million outright if they simply release him. He is also 33 years old and has dealt with major injuries each of the last three years. At this point, he may not be worth the investment.
OG Shawn Lauvao
Washington can also save $4 million by releasing Lauvao, who also dealt with injuries last season. However, he also didn't meet expectations when he was healthy. Lauvao is another candidate to have his contract restructured, but the Redskins may just choose to find an upgrade on the open market.
DE Ricky Jean Francois
Francois is great in the locker room, but is 30 and the Redskins can save $3 million by cutting him. They may prefer to keep him, but they can get a younger and cheaper defensive linemen in the draft and in free agency. This wouldn't be an expected move, but it is one to keep an eye on.
