The 3 Most Likely Draft Targets For The Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have plenty of areas to address when next May's draft rolls around...let's take a look at their three most likely targets:

3. Landon Collins, Alabama SS

Alabama v Auburn

Washington's run defense has been surprisingly solid this year, and they're giving up just 101 yards per game on the ground (7th out of all NFL defenses). The pass defense has been significantly less convincing, and starting SS Brandon Meriweather, while solid at times, has trouble tackling within the rules and is now on the wrong side of 30. Collins, the best safety in the draft, can play either strong safety or free safety and has developed quickly under Nick Saban's tutelage at Alabama.

2. Brandon Scherff, Iowa OT

The Redskins need to protect their quarterback better - whoever he is - and Scherff can be an immediate upgrade on the offensive line. Iowa prospects have an excellent NFL track record, especially in the trenches, and Scherff has the size and technique to contribute right out of the gates. Scherff's biggest asset in Washington might be his ability to improvise - he thinks on his feet and can make key blocks even after a play breaks down. If the Redskins still have problems maintaining the pocket or containing rushers, Scherff's ability to react quickly and correctly will be extremely valuable.

1. Randy Gregory, Nebraska DE

NCAA FOOTBALL: SEP 14 UCLA at Nebraska

The Nebraska DE is an absolute monster when rushing the passer, but he’s also solid against the run and consistently gets into the backfield. Oakland, Tampa, and several other teams reportedly have USC’s Leonard Williams higher on the draft board, so this is a solid pick for the 'Skins if Williams is off the board (which he probably will be, with Washington projected to pick fifth in most mocks we've seen).

Gregory would be productive right away, with many scouts calling him one of the most NFL-ready prospects in the 2015 draft class.
