The Washington Redskins have started surveying season ticket holders about a new stadium, according to the Washington Post:
The team told fans that the brief survey — which was attached to the online invoices sent to at least some season ticket holders — “will help shape your new home and determine unique benefits for Season Ticket Members who have been part of the Redskins family at FedEx Field.”
Twelve multiple-choice questions follow, several of which could make longtime Redskins fans hopeful. The survey asks if fans “would want the lower bowl seats to move/shake similar to the RFK stadium experience,” whether fans would want to be able to view the field from concourses throughout the stadium, how important public transportation would be for a new stadium, and whether dedicated tailgating lots are important. The lack of distinctive character, lack of (convenient) public transportation, and lack of comfortable tailgating options have been among the biggest complaints about FedEx Field, which will celebrate its 18th birthday in September.
Other questions in the survey concern the size of the new stadium, climate-controlled concourses, in-seat waiter service, sit-down restaurants, other food options, and benefits for longtime season ticket holders.
FedEx Field opened in 1997 and currently seats 79,000 people, but once had a capacity of 91,704 from 2009-2010. Even though the stadium is relatively new, there have been a lot of questions about the quality of the playing surface.
