Jay Gruden has been searching for a new new quarterbacks coach for the Redskins, and according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, they're taking a look at former Bills OC Nathaniel Hackett for the job.
Hackett is the son of veteran NFL assistant and USC HC Paul Hackett, and has previously worked for the Bills, Syracuse (he followed former Bills HC Doug Marrone after Buffalo hired him away in 2013), Tampa Bay, Stanford University and UC Davis, his alma mater.
According to La Canfora, the Redskins will have plenty of competition - Buffalo wants him back (as QB coach, now that Greg Roman is in town as the new OC), but the Rams have already interviewed him once for their OC job (they're bringing him back for round two this week) and the Jaguars are also interested in him as a potential tutor for Blake Bortles.
Considering how much decent football Hackett was able to get out of young offense led by the 32-year-old Kyle Orton, it's no surprise that several teams are interested. The Redskins are at a bit of a disadvantage, though - Doug Marrone recently landed with the Jaguars as an offensive line coach/assistant HC, and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he ends up following him to the Jaguars as well.
