The Washington Redskins have an unsettled quarterback situation, and while head coach Jay Gruden has said that Robert Griffin III will be the team's starter next season, it's clear that he doesn't like the former No. 2 overall pick.
Many assume the Redskins will play out this season with RGIII as their QB, but according to ESPN's John Clayton, Washington plans to take Oregon's Marcus Mariota if he falls to them at No. 5 in the NFL Draft:
“Honestly, [people say Mariota] may fall to the Jets; he’s not gonna fall to the Jets at six, I’ll tell you this right now: the Redskins will take him at [No.] five. Dan Snyder may not think there’s quarterback issues; Jay Gruden and everybody else in the front office thinks there’s quarterback issues. And if Marcus Mariota falls to five – now it’s not a position where they’re desperate enough to trade up to get him – but if he falls to give, I’m telling you this right now, they’ll take him.”
The Redskins could just be expressing interest to spur a trade to have someone move into the top five, allowing them to take a better player, but all that remains to be seen.
