The Washington Redskins will likely take a completely different approach to the offseason under new general manager Scot McCloughan, using the draft to plug some of the team's most obvious holes while refraining from spending big bucks on veteran free agents on the marketplace.
However, while that's what we think will happen, there's still several tantalizing names out there that prove troublesome for the Redskins if they decide to go back to their old free-spending ways. Here's 3 free agents the Redskins should avoid when free agency starts March 10th.
RB Frank Gore 
No knock on Gore's impressive resume, but the Redskins would be best served pumping the brakes on the soon-to-be 32-year-old 49ers stalwart. While Washington is looking for a versatile back to pair with Alfred Morris and McCloughan is familiar with Gore from his time by the Bay, the University of Miami product already has 10 years of wear and tear on his frame. Gore could prove the skeptics wrong, but the Redskins need to avoid overpaying for a back whose most productive days could be behind him.
G Mike Iupati 
Speaking of former 49ers with a McCloughan connection, Iupati will test free agency this offseason with all signs pointing to him commanding top money for an offensive lineman. While Iupati would represent an upgrade for head coach Jay Gruden on the line, the cap space required to secure the 27-year-old on this market may be (and should be) too rich for Washington's blood. Rather than chase Iupati, the Redskins should be content looking for bargains or to the NFL Draft when it comes to guard.
DT Ndamukong Suh 
Danger! Danger! Great player, bad fit! Great player, bad fit!
With as coveted as Suh is going to be on the free-agent market if the Lions don't franchise tag him before March 10th, the 28-year-old star could command up to $30 million in cap commitment per season to get him to sign on the dotted line. The Redskins' 3-4 already presents an awkward fit for a player who is likely not looking to shift to nose tackle and wouldn't get the same sack opportunities as a 3-4 end. This is a classic square peg, round hole situation that the Redskins should slowly back away from.
