In today's looking into Redskins news, tight end Jordan Reed has a nightmarish season last year after suffering a concussion, with two months full of nausea, headaches, and insomnia shaking him just a bit.
“I started to get a little scared -- like, ‘Maybe I’m going to be like this forever,’ or something like that,” Reed told reporters after Thursday’s OTAs, via John Keim of ESPN.com. “But it ended up going away."
From a team standpoint, Reed is a huge weapon for RGIII and the passing attack - providing a reliable target for Griffin when things break down in the pocket. The Redskins, and Reed himself, have high hopes that his health troubles from last season won't carry over to 2014.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen again,” Reed said with noted optimism. “I don’t think it’s going to be something that I’m going to have to deal with my whole career.”
New head coach Jay Gruden is also confident that Reed should be able to go at 100% for the duration of the 2014 NFL season.
“He is obviously a force in the passing game,” Gruden said. “We got to work him a little [on] being more stout in the running game. But overall he’s had no drawbacks from his concussion. We have, obviously, one of the more talented young tight ends in the league. He is going to be a great guy up in the middle of the field. If people want to [focus on] DeSean [Jackson] or [focus on] Pierre, he’s a guy that is very much needed in the passing game. We just got to keep him healthy.”
