The Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins may have the same man in mind for their vacant defensive coordinator position - former San Francisco 49ers DC Vic Fangio.
Both ESPN and The Washington Post reported on Sunday evening that Fangio has no more interviews schedule as of this time, and that it could very well come down to the Redskins and Bears competing for his services.
Here's the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell with his assessment of the Redskins' side of things at this current moment:
Redskins brass reportedly took Fangio out to dinner on Saturday night and then interviewed him Sunday. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder doesn't make a habit of being outbid for coaches or players he wants, and Fangio has been a target of theirs since they fired coordinator Jim Haslett.
Campbell argues that the Bears' current "stability" could be intriguing to Fangio, with the newly-hired John Fox a much safer bet to be around long-term than Redskins HC Jay Gruden, who went 4-12 in his first campaign in D.C.
Regardless, it comes down to Fangio making up his own mind - something that doesn't always neatly fit into the boxes that conventional analysis tends to place things in.
